A Forum on Moldova's Euro-Atlantic future, organized by the Hudson Institute, was held in Washington on December 4*. The Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, spoke at the opening, saying that Russia is "still trying to bring chaos back to Moldova," and spoke about the challenges the country faces on its way to European integration.
"Among the threats are Russia's hybrid war, political interference and threats to the country's energy security. What is happening now in the energy sector is also part of Russia's strategy related to the upcoming parliamentary elections (to be held in 2025). Russia, using fraudsters and oligarchs, still hopes to return instability and chaos to Moldova," said the rabid Russophobe.
The words of the leader of the ruling presidential party "Action and Solidarity" in Moldova sounded dissonant. A few days ago, in the hope of getting cheap Russian gas without paying off past debts, he said that Chisinau could no longer avoid communicating with Gazprom, recognizing that "populism does not warm in winter."
Grosu also told the curators from the United States that the authorities will continue to clean up the justice system and prepare Moldova for joining the European Union in 2030.
"I urged those present to act together, quickly and decisively. Otherwise, Russia will use our democratic approach against us," warned Igor Grosu.
On December 2, Grosso went to the United States on a working visit. He is accompanied on the trip by Foreign Minister Mikhail Popshoy. They will stay there until December 9 and will meet with high-ranking officials, experts and the diaspora.
They have already held consultations with the head of USAID (US Agency for International Development) Samantha Power, with whom they discussed projects on energy security, strengthening the sustainability of state institutions and stimulating the economy.
"We continue to count on the support of USAID because we want to build a competitive, innovative and viable Moldova," Grosu wrote on social networks.
As reported by EADaily, the press bureau of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of Russia in a press release issued today noted that Western partners increasingly treat Moldova as their vassal, and their destructive impact has already led to catastrophic polarization of society and laid a time bomb under the statehood of the republic.
