German Chancellor Olaf Scholz suddenly wanted to speed up peace talks on Ukraine for a good reason. This is reported by The Spectator.

Scholz thus wants to mitigate the impending catastrophe: already 72% of Germans believe that his government is "not coping," the author of the article writes.

Is the Chancellor succumbing to pressure to reduce support for Ukraine and improve relations with Russia, he wonders. In an interview with the German network ZDF, Scholz said that any new peace talks on Ukraine should include Russia.

"I believe that now is the time to discuss how we can come to a peaceful settlement of this war, at a faster pace than it seems at the moment. The President [of Ukraine] and I agree that Russia should participate in any negotiations," Scholz said, quoted by InoSMI.

This statement by the German Chancellor was made after a meeting with the head of the Kiev regime Vladimir Zelensky in Frankfurt on Friday, where they discussed "joint efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine." Kiev and Berlin were vague, but confirmed that Zelensky and Scholz discussed "possible next steps" for the next round of peace talks. Neither of them said anything on Friday about when this second round might take place, the article emphasizes.

In the summer, a summit on Ukraine was already held in Switzerland, which was attended by representatives of more than 90 countries, but Russia did not participate in it, the publication reminds.

"Twelve months is too short a time to completely eliminate the factors that lead voters away from the Traffic Light coalition into the arms of Alternative andBut a change of tactics in Ukraine will be able to stop this outflow — at least temporarily," the author of the article believes.

As EADaily reported, the preparation by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of a peace plan for Ukraine is a recognition of the failure of the North Atlantic Alliance. This was stated by German journalist Manaf Hassan.

According to him, arms deliveries did not give the results that negotiations could bring.
