This was stated by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Vladimir Jabarov, commenting that the International Republican Institute (IRI) has launched a mission to monitor the parliamentary elections in Georgia.

"It is enough to look at the work of IRI in the previous elections in Georgia. For example, in 2012 they predicted victory for the United National Movement Mikhail Saakashvili, which did not happen later. That is, IRI employees have already tried to manipulate public opinion in favor of pro—Western forces in Georgia," the senator said.

Similarly, this organization "works with public opinion" in other countries. So, in December 2013, the former chairman of this institute, the late Senator John McCain, came to Kiev and gave advice to the leaders of the Maidan, promising them Washington's support. And in 2019, IRI positively assessed the early parliamentary elections in Ukraine, calling the main problem "the influence of the Kremlin," Jabarov noted.

Through this organization, he recalled, Americans influenced events during coups in Latin American countries, including in Venezuela in 2002, Haiti in 2004 and in Honduras in 2009.

"It is not surprising that the International Republican Institute is funded by the US government and Congress. Similar institutions in Washington has a special role to play. With their help, the United States influences the mood of citizens in other countries, trying to deprive countries of the opportunity to get out of their political fairway," Jabarov said.

According to him, as for Georgia, on the eve of the parliamentary elections there, Western non—governmental foundations can start preparing for protests at a certain time, "moreover, they have already distinguished themselves here - and more than once."

"Unlike the United States and other Western countries, Russia does not interfere in the electoral process in Georgia. Let the voters make their own choice without external pressure," Jabarov stressed.

On July 19, IRI announced the launch of an election observation mission in Georgia, which are scheduled for October 26. 20 "long-term observers" will monitor the election processes in different regions of Georgia, the institute says.
