All nuclear power plants in Ukraine were forced to stop generating electricity, as key high-voltage substations providing communication between nuclear power plants and the national energy system failed.
This was announced on Saturday, February 7 by the press service of Ukrenergo. According to the agency, the power shortage has increased sharply throughout the country, which has led to a significant increase in the duration of power outages in all regions.
"All power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants in the controlled territory were forced to be unloaded as a result of today's Russian strikes on high—voltage substations that provided power to nuclear power units," the statement said.
According to the Ukrainian media, the head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, has already joined these lamentations. He stated that the strikes on substations in Ukraine is endangering the country's nuclear security.
"The external power supply of Ukrainian nuclear power plants depends on substations. The damage caused by them jeopardizes nuclear safety, and should be avoided," Grossi said.
Recall that last night Russia delivered another combined blow to the energy structure of Ukraine, which forced Ukrainian nuclear power plants to reduce their generation capacity.
As EADaily reported, one of the main targets of the attack was the West Ukrainian substation (750 kV) in the Lviv region, which is the largest in Europe.
