The Ukrainian skeletonist will perform at the Olympics in the "memory helmet", despite the IOC ban. This was stated by the speaker of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine Maxim Cheberyaka.
"Vladislav (Geraskevich) said that, despite the ban, he will go to the start in this helmet," said Cheberyaka, quoted by "Время.иа ".
The National Olympic Committee fully supports the athlete's position, he noted.
"I can't understand why the IOC has double standards… There are no violations that could be prescribed in the rules or requirements for the athlete's equipment. Therefore, we are acting, and Vladislav is acting within the law," Cheberyaka added.
He cited the example of an Italian athlete who was allowed to perform in a helmet with the symbols of the Sochi Olympics and the Russian tricolor, which, according to Cheberiaki, is a direct violation of the rules of the Games.
The Ukrainian sports functionary expressed the hope that "the IOC will understand and accept the position of the Ukrainian side."
Earlier, Geraskevich went to the second official training session in the "memory helmet" after the IOC ban.
As reported by EADaily, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) banned Ukrainian skeletonist Vladislav Geraskevich from performing at the Olympics in a helmet, which, according to him, depicts Ukrainian athletes who died in the SMO zone.
