The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation advocates the introduction of a full VAT of 22% for foreign goods starting from January 1, 2027. This was announced today, February 11, by Minister Anton Alikhanov at the Duma Committee on Industrial Policy, Interfax reports
This proposal differs from the draft developed by the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, which provides for a gradual increase in the VAT rate on purchases of foreign goods: in 2027 it may amount to 5%, in 2028 — 10%, in 2029 — 15%, starting in 2030 — 20%.
In addition to tax proposals, Alikhanov said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade is also working on fine-tuning the system of cross-border electronic commerce and equalization of commissions on marketplaces.
This news, which Russian telegram channels have now begun to publish, causes a whole flurry of negativity - just read the comments. The situation is skillfully used by Ukrainian provocateurs, pointing out that after the decision to slow down the Telegram messenger, the clumsy actions of the Russian authorities seem to be deliberately fueling irritation in society. Ordering and purchasing goods on marketplaces with significant discounts remains one of the few "outlets" for most Russians.
