The European Commission offered businessman and owner of the social network X Elon Musk an illegal deal, but he did not agree. The entrepreneur wrote about this on his account in X.
"If we had censored some statements quietly and without telling anyone, they (representatives of the European Commission) They wouldn't have fined us. Other platforms have agreed to this deal. X is not," Musk said.
Investigations into case X by regulatory authorities The negotiations began in December 2023, including over how the platform handles content after the Hamas attack on Israel. At the moment, the proceedings against X are ongoing.
On July 12, the European Commission informed X of its preliminary findings, according to which the company violates the European Union Digital Services Act in areas related to ensuring transparency of advertising and researchers' access to open data and information. In this regard, Elon Musk's social network may be fined 6% of its global profits.
The European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA) came into force in August 2023. According to it, such digital giants as Google, Facebook* (part of the Meta Corporation*, recognized in Russia is extremist and banned), Amazon and others are legally responsible for the content posted on their platforms, RBC reminds.
