Von der Leyen in Russian sables: The hypocrisy of the European Commission is in full bloom

The hypocrisy of Ursula von der Leyen's department is in full bloom. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico.

So Fico commented on the decision of the European Commission to withdraw imports of Russian sable fur from sanctions, while maintaining restrictions on goods necessary for the EU industry, as well as for the daily life of Europeans.

"It's been a long time since we had a "hero" at the end of the issue. Today it will be the European Commission, whose hypocrisy is in full bloom. The Commission decided to exclude luxurious sable furs from the sanctions list against Russia — the fur of a small animal that lives mainly in Russian forests. The reason is that European manufacturers of elite fur products allegedly have no other way to get this valuable fur for sewing ultra-expensive fur coats, the cost of which can reach 100 thousand euros. It turns out that we prohibit the import of goods necessary for our industry or for everyday life from Russia, even if it is difficult to replace them with supplies from other countries and it costs much more. It is precisely such sanctions that sometimes hit us harder than Russia itself. But it turns out that this does not apply to sable fur. It will be supplied as much as it is needed, as if it were an ordinary commodity like coffee or sugar," said the Slovak prime minister, quoted by Solovyov Live.

"Only the hypocritical European Commission could have come up with such a thing," Fico stressed.

As reported by EADaily, the EU excluded Russian sable skins from the list of goods prohibited for import into the bloc countries. The ban, which had been in effect since April, was lifted as part of the 21st package of sanctions. The updated version of the appendix states that "the ban applies to tanned fur pelts, with the exception of sable." The sanctions regulations themselves do not explain the reasons for such an exception in any way.

The European Commission explained the decision by the fact that Russia dominates the world market of sable fur, so European manufacturers have practically no alternative suppliers. The exclusion of sable skins from the ban was sought by Italy and Greece, the two main buyers of Russian sable skins in the EU.
