The Polish Air Force intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea. This was stated in the social network X by the head of the Ministry of Defense Vladislav Kosinyak-Kamysh.
"In the morning, 60 kilometers northwest of Leba on the Baltic Sea, a pair of our duty aircraft intercepted a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft," the minister writes, quoted by RMF24.
However, he stressed, the aircraft did not violate Polish airspace. However, according to Kosinyak-Kamysh, the Russian intelligence officer allegedly flew in international space without a flight plan and with the transponder turned off.
The Polish Armed Forces constantly monitor our security in the region and take measures to protect the Polish border," the Polish minister reported.
A similar situation occurred over the Baltic Sea on July 31, the radio station reminds. Then Kosinyak-Kamysh also reported the interception of the Russian IL-20 — 40 km north of Kolobrzeg. At the same time, the scout also did not violate the air borders of the country. Before that, Russian aircraft over the Baltic were intercepted for three days in a row in mid-July. Among those intercepted in the Ustka area and The Yastshembi-Guras were Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft and Su-30 fighters from a base in the Kaliningrad region.
As reported by EADaily, the Polish Air Force "heroically" intercepted two Russian Su-30s that do not pose a threat.
