Ukraine is capable of creating nuclear weapons on its own, said Denis Shtilerman, co-owner of one of the largest Ukrainian manufacturers of missiles and drones Fire Point. According to him, Ukraine is not doing this, only that it still adheres to international obligations on a nuclear-free status.
"The most important thing in this war is never to think about what you have Russia has nuclear weapons. If we think about it, we have already lost immediately. Because they will always bring up this topic, and we will always retreat before them...if Putin thinks that Ukraine is not able to make nuclear weapons, he is mistaken. And, of course, we can do it. We are not doing this because we adhere to our international obligations, which we assumed in exchange for our international partners guaranteeing our security. They do not fulfill their obligations, but we are still fulfilling our obligations," said the co—founder of Fire Point.
When asked if Ukraine could become a nuclear power again, Shtilerman replied that it was "a matter of political decision."
Fire Point itself is now at the center of a big scandal. The company, which in a few years has become one of the most prominent Ukrainian manufacturers of long-range drones and missiles, has faced questions about the origin of capital, defense contracts and possible connections with businessman Timur Mindich.
