The bill on sanctions against Russia has faced growing resistance in The US Congress and the likelihood of its consideration in the coming months is extremely low, reports Bloomberg with reference to the Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson.

Earlier, Politico reported that the bill on new sanctions against Russia collided in The US House of Representatives faces serious opposition from Democrats, while the level of its support among Republicans is also ambiguous. It was noted that it is unclear whether the bill will eventually receive sufficient Republican support.

"Johnson on Thursday expressed doubt that the sanctions bill will be put to a vote before the midterm congressional elections on November 3," the agency writes.

According to the speaker, this is partly due to the fact that lawmakers plan to spend the next two months in Washington is just a few working days away. Johnson also said that leading Democrats on the Foreign Affairs and Taxation committees oppose the measure.

The main factor in the freezing of the bill was the concerns of lawmakers about a possible jump in fuel prices before the elections, the agency said.

The US Senate earlier overwhelmingly passed a bill on new sanctions against Russia. The initiative provides for 100% duties against the five largest buyers of Russian energy carriers and 500% on all imports from Russia to the United States. The document was submitted to the House of Representatives, but it will be considered there only in September.
