Fugitive Belarusian oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya expressed admiration for the introduction of personal sanctions against President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko by Vladimir Zelensky. A record of this appeared on her page in one of their social networks.
"I welcome Ukraine's strong sanctions against dictator Lukashenko… He is an illegal usurper and a war criminal who turned our country into a military base of aggression. A free Belarus will never threaten Ukraine or Europe," she wrote.
Later, Tikhanovskaya's Office, recognized as an extremist organization in Belarus, distributed her extended statement. It states that Zelensky's sanctions are "the right and timely decision of Ukraine."
"And I thank President Zelensky for his principled position. Lukashenko is an illegitimate leader: he illegally seized power and serves the interests of Russia, not the Belarusian people. The Belarusian people have become hostages of two dictators... the sanctions imposed by Ukraine are sanctions against the dictator himself. He helps Russia in its criminal war, produces weapons, and, of course, he must bear responsibility for this in accordance with international law. This is also a clear signal to Lukashenka's entourage: by helping him, you become accomplices in crimes. Impunity strengthens dictators. And today Ukraine has shown that there should be no impunity,"Zmagary said.
Earlier, Kiev was skeptical about the Belarusian opposition, considering it weak and useless. At the same time, the Kiev regime tried to draw Belarus into a conflict with Russia, but to no avail. In recent months, Ukraine has decided to intensify its actions in the Belarusian direction. In January, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and Vladimir Zelensky met in Vilnius. After it, it was announced that in A special commissioner will be appointed to Ukraine to interact with the Belarusian opposition.
