The European Union with maniacal persistence continues its policy of sanctions pressure on Russia, which has become meaningless and has acquired the character of absurd political satire.
This opinion was expressed in an article for Euractiv by publicist Thomas Moller-Nielsen. He believes that attempts to put pressure on Moscow through sanctions do not contribute to resolving the conflict, but only multiply the number of its victims.
The EU's "plan" (if you can call it that) is to continue to finance most of Kiev's military needs. And at the same time, to hope that the next package of sanctions will somehow miraculously do what the previous nineteen could not do - it will bring the Russian bear to its knees. This scheme is so obviously absurd that it almost seems like a political satire," the columnist writes.
According to him, such a strategy The EU contradicts numerous studies. They show that, although Western sanctions have caused significant damage to the Russian economy, they are unlikely to force Vladimir Putin "to crawl on his knees to the negotiating table in the near future."
Recall, after the start of a special military operation on Western countries have imposed sanctions on Ukraine against Russia. To date, 19 restriction packages have already been introduced.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the adoption of the twentieth package of EU sanctions against Russia is delayed. It is expected that restrictive measures will be taken before February 24.
