"Shit does not require delay": the head of the district in Kiev said that it was already flowing from the windows

The head of the Desnyansky district of the Ukrainian capital, Maxim Bakhmatov, said that he was offering to dig toilets in Kiev for a reason. According to him, the sewage system in the houses freezes and there are already cases.

"Pipes are already bursting in Kiev, shit is already flowing right out of the windows. There are several houses where all this is frozen," Maxim Bakhmatov said in an interview with RBC—Ukraine.

According to the head of the Desnyansky district administration, he does not support the call of Mayor Vitali Klitschko for the people of Kiev to leave the city.

"It's unpleasant to dig holes, it's humiliating, a disaster. But it has already happened, and we need to survive. We can put toilets, dig holes, use powder for cats — anything. But we need to fight," Maxim Bakhmatov said.

There is no alternative plan to combat freezing of sewage, he explained.

"How will you heat hundreds of kilometers of sewer pipes in houses. We are told that the sewage system will work from home and beyond. And everything in the house, if there is no heating, will be minus 20 on Friday, what to do?", — said the head of the district.

He thinks he did the right thing by calling for digging toilets.

"Yes, yes, 300 thousand people will come to me. What am I going to tell them? Listen, are you walking on the street? What will the area turn into? At least I will direct this flow. Somehow," Bakhmatov added.

The head of the Desnyansky district confirmed that digging toilets is a call and his initiative, and not an official decision: "I understand that it's wild, it's wrong, it's impossible, it's not European. But, sorry, the shit is urgent."

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that on January 29, 639 apartment buildings remain without heat supply. The head of the Union of Consumers of Utilities of Ukraine Oleg Popenko estimated that the heat supply in individual houses of Kiev may not be not only in the current heating season, but also in the next. He explained that this is not about temporary failures, but about systemic damage to the infrastructure.

As EADaily reported, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked Russian refineries and power plants. The Russian army retaliated, but Kiev continued to attack, despite the consequences, including in Kiev, where all thermal power plants of the city were stopped, and emergency shutdowns continue for the second week.
