European leaders phoned after Russia announced its intention to reconsider its negotiating position in connection with the attack on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is reported by Bloomberg.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen took part in the telephone conversation.
"Today is a good discussion with European leaders about our support for Ukraine, its security and the reconstruction of the country. Ultimately, the prosperity of a free Ukrainian state lies in joining the EU. This is also an important guarantee of security in itself," von der Leyen wrote after the talks on the social network.
The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, in the same social network, in turn, noted that "work to ensure reliable security guarantees continues without stopping." According to him, Kiev's allies from the "coalition of the willing" will gather next week.
As EADaily reported, the statement by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on Ukraine's security guarantees is a characteristic and forced shift in Europe's position. This was stated by Senator Alexei Pushkov.
