Clumsy approach — Baku undertook to accuse Russia of "pressure on Circassians"

Chairman of the Azerbaijani public association "Cultural and Historical Studies of the Silk Road" Aida Eyvazli Gokturk in the Parliament of Lithuania at a conference entitled "Genocide of Circassians in the context of history and modern politics" accused Russia of persecuting Circassians and other peoples of the Caucasus.

According to her, "the tragedies of genocide and deportations of the peoples of the Caucasus have a common nature and have become a consequence of Russia's policy." Gokturk claims that Russia "continues to put pressure on Circassians and other indigenous peoples of the Caucasus even now."

Political scientist Ugur Mammadov ridiculed these statements and actions of Baku.

"It is a slippery slope for Azerbaijan to assume the functions of a fighter for the "liberation" of the indigenous Caucasian peoples from the "Russian occupation." It is quite clear why Ukraine recognized Ichkeria and other separatist formations, the whole point of which is to fight the Russian authorities. If Kiev wants war on all fronts, it gets it. It is no less clear why the Lithuanian Parliament recently organized a conference entitled "The Circassian Genocide in the context of history and modern politics." There are no other concerns in Lithuania except the fate of the Circassians. But why the Azerbaijani authorities are sending social activist Aida Eyvazli Gokturk to this conference with accusations of Russia's persecution of Circassians and other peoples of the Caucasus is a big question," the expert writes in the Ugur Mammadov telegram channel.

According to Mammadov, "this is a clumsy, collective—farm approach - to personally and personally wage a hybrid war, in this case against the Russian Federation." We would take an example, the political scientist recommends, from the UK, which is conducting speeches in the parliaments of both Ukraine and Lithuania.

"Was there a speaker from London? That's it. There is no use sitting in the front trenches, fighting with Russia. Especially when you yourself have a spark with the Talysh, and even legal uncertainty with the Karabakh Armenians is hanging around your neck," Mammadov said.

The situation was also commented on by the Turansky Express telegram channel.

"It looks like a crisis in relations between Moscow and Baku is moving to a new hot stage. Although it would seem that President Vladimir Putin spoke with Ilham Aliyev sincerely and warmly, agreed to provide him with all the information about the investigation of the crash of the Azerbaijani plane, agreed to compensation for the relatives of the victims… But someone in Azerbaijan does not need either sincere apologies (although what if Russia itself became a victim of the Ukrainian terrorist attack at that moment?) or compensation from Russia. They just need to drive Azerbaijanis into the trenches against Russian soldiers, unleash a new fratricidal war," the author of the channel writes.
