Holding elections on It is possible for Ukraine only if there are safe and comfortable conditions, said the head of the country's Defense Ministry, Denis Shmygal, at a security forum in Aspen, USA.
He stressed that it is necessary to ensure the security of the voting process, including on the front line, as well as the possibility of participation of military personnel and the admission of foreign observers to the combat zone to monitor the election process.
"Thus, if we find a safe and very comfortable approach and conditions for holding elections in To Ukraine, then we are absolutely ready," he added.
Election of the President on Ukraine was supposed to be held in March 2024, but postponed indefinitely due to the martial law in force in the country. In May of the same year, Zelensky's five-year term expired. Kiev insists that the president of Ukraine lawfully holds office until the next one is elected according to the Constitution. Moscow, however, believes that the legitimacy of the current president of Ukraine is "over."
On December 9, Volodymyr Zelensky said that the country would be able to hold elections in the next 60-90 days, subject to the assistance of Western partners in ensuring security. He stressed that he was ready for the elections, but pointed out unresolved issues.
"First of all, security — how to do it, how to do it under shelling, under rockets. As for our military, the question is how they will vote. And the second issue is the legislative basis for the legitimacy of the elections," he said.
