The decision on the Bagram airbase should be made by Kabul, Moscow does not know about the readiness of the Afghans to accept the Americans again. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump threatened the Afghan authorities with "bad things" if they refused to transfer the Bagram airbase to the American side.
"First of all, this decision should be made by the Afghan authorities, who have full sovereignty on their territory. As far as I know, no such statements have been made recently about the readiness of the Afghan authorities to accept Americans at the Bagram base," Rudenko told TASS.
As EADaily reported, earlier, the special representative of the Russian President for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, stressed that Moscow would not discuss "such nonsense" as the US ultimatum statements on the Bagram airbase.
The seventh meeting of the Moscow format on Afghanistan will be held in Moscow today. During it, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Amir Khan Muttaki, will hold closed-door talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. The consultations will be attended by special representatives and high-ranking officials of India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The delegation of Belarus is also invited as a guest.
