In connection with the increased attacks on merchant ships, Ankara "calls for the creation of a mechanism to declare a moratorium," Fidan said.

"Turkish vessels or vessels with Turkish owners or Turkish crew are being attacked, this is becoming a serious problem for us," he said.

According to his minister, the proposals have already been submitted to Russia and Ukraine.

The Turkish Foreign Minister gave a long interview to Anadolu agency, in which he also touched upon the topic of attacks on ships belonging to Turkey or sailing under the Turkish flag in the Black Sea.

"Compared to other vessels that have been attacked, the number of Turkish vessels is somewhat smaller, but this still causes us serious concern. When the exhausting struggle at the front turns into an exhausting struggle in the rear, it is no longer a question of whether we will lose the battle or not, but whether we will preserve ourselves as a nation. This is a dangerous situation. We must intervene at all costs and, acting as the international community, stop this war, because everything that seemed impossible is happening here," Fidan said.
