Merz: As Europeans, we cannot play the role we would like to play

Germany is not able to play the role it would like on the world stage. This was stated by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in an interview with the YouTube channel of the Christian Democratic Union party, of which he is the leader.

He noted that Europe is now trying to unite again and Germany, as the largest country in the region, plays an important role in this process. However, the opportunities for independent action are limited, as can be seen in the example of the Ukrainian crisis.

"We are dependent on American assistance, we see that China, Brazil and other countries of the world feel free in their relations with Russia, a new partnership is emerging in the form of the so-called Shanghai format. I am interested and burdened, I must admit, by the fact that we, as Europeans, cannot now play the role that we really would like to play, should play in order to guarantee our interests," he said.

The Chancellor also admitted that his "foreign policy activity" (probably regarding assistance to the Kiev regime. — Approx. EADaily) is facing criticism from within Germany.

"But the German Chancellor will not fulfill his duties properly if he does not equally actively engage in foreign policy, European policy and domestic policy in order to ensure that our country lives peacefully, freely and well—" he added.

As EADaily reported, on the eve of the SVR of Russia published a release from which it follows that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz was raised by his father and grandfather, convinced Nazis obsessed with the idea of revenge for the defeat of Nazi Germany. He himself has been hatching these ideas for a long time. One of Mertz's steps in this direction was the delivery of German Taurus cruise missiles to Kiev for strikes against Russia. However, he did it secretly, ordering the removal of all markings from parts and components.
