The Chinese authorities opposed the unilateral sanctions imposed by Vladimir Zelensky, urging Kiev to correct the erroneous policy. This was stated by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, commenting on Kiev's decision to impose restrictions against a number of Chinese companies.
"China has always opposed unilateral sanctions that have not been approved by the UN Security Council, and calls on Ukraine to correct its erroneous policy in order to avoid negative consequences," an official representative of the Chinese foreign ministry said at a briefing.
The diplomat also stressed that China "will continue to resolutely protect the legitimate rights and interests of its companies," TASS quoted.
Earlier, Zelensky signed a decree imposing sanctions on a number of Russian citizens, as well as legal entities from Russia, China, UAE and Iran. Sanctions Commissioner Vladislav Vlasyuk wrote on Facebook* that Ukraine has synchronized its sanctions with the 18th package of restrictions of the European Union. According to Vlasyuk, in particular, "companies from Russia, China, the UAE, Iran and other structures have fallen under sanctions," which, according to the Ukrainian side, are allegedly "connected with the shadow fleet, the supply of dual-use goods bypassing sanctions, as well as with the Russian military-industrial complex."
