Georgia called the reason for the "nationwide" blackout

The complete shutdown of the Georgian power system, which occurred today, August 5, is connected with the planned tests of the Ingur HPP units.

According to Giorgi Pangani, a member of the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission of Georgia, a detailed analysis of the incident is currently being carried out to establish the exact cause of the accident.

"I would like to inform you that today the State Electrical System of Georgia conducted scheduled testing of IngurGPP units. Its purpose was to identify and assess weaknesses in the system, taking into account the accidents that occurred on July 24 and 25. As part of the testing, among other activities, the operation of the Georgian energy system in an isolated mode was envisaged. This mode was associated with certain technical risks, including the possibility of a complete shutdown of the electrical system. As is already known, during the testing there was a complete shutdown of the Georgian power system. A detailed analysis and assessment of what happened is currently being carried out in order to establish the exact causes of the accident and prevent the recurrence of such cases in the future," Pangani wrote on social networks.

On July 24 and 25, a system accident occurred in Georgia, which led to a temporary power outage throughout the country.

According to the preliminary results of the investigation into the causes of the blackout, the National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission of Georgia (GNERC) stated that the separation of the Georgian energy system from the Azerbaijan energy system led to a large-scale accident in the Georgian electricity system that occurred on July 24.
