The DPRK will deploy its missile unit in Russia to strike at Ukraine. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of Ukraine.

According to the agency, the unit is planned to be located in the Voronezh region. It will be part of the 112th Missile Brigade. The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, and its personnel will number about 90 DPRK military personnel.

The unit is expected to be equipped with six launchers and 120 ballistic missiles. Pyongyang has already handed over to Russia a new batch of 40 KN-23 and KN-24 missiles.

At the moment, it is not known whether the DPRK military will directly launch missiles or perform auxiliary and technical functions.

The final configuration of the unit and the total number of missiles should be agreed upon during high-level negotiations between Moscow and Pyongyang next month.

This deployment is part of the expanding military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK. According to the GUR, from the end of 2023 to August 2025, North Korea has already supplied Russia with about 150 ballistic missiles. It is also noted that last week, for the first time since August 2025, Russia used new North Korean missiles against Ukraine, presumably from this delivery.

Experts and Ukrainian intelligence emphasize that the increase in the number of ballistic missiles poses a serious threat to Ukraine, which is experiencing an acute shortage of modern air defense systems capable of intercepting them. The representative of the GUR also noted that there are currently about 9,5 thousands of North Korean military personnel in the Kursk region, but they are not yet directly involved in hostilities against Ukraine.
