The reaction to the beating of a Russian-speaking girl was qualified by the State Security Service of Georgia as "sabotage"

The State Security Service of Georgia has launched an investigation under the article "Sabotage" in connection with a "discrediting information campaign organized from abroad to the detriment of the state interests of Georgia."

The State Security Service explains that this is a "campaign aimed at creating a false impression that in Georgia has developed an unfavorable environment for tourists from Of the Russian Federation".

"At this stage, it is known that several fake accounts registered on the social platform X published misinformation on various issues, in particular, rumors that Georgian citizens leave tourists from In the Russian Federation alone in the forest or deliberately and intentionally pollute the food they ordered in Georgian restaurants, etc. Such false information was subsequently distributed with a certain frequency in a coordinated manner by an online publication registered in a foreign country and having an audience of millions," the statement said.

The statement of the State Security Service does not say which publication is in question.

The investigation was initiated under Article 318 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to 4 years.

The State Security Service writes that it is identifying the organizers and participants of the campaign and in the future will also work on the timely detection of such disinformation campaigns and the prevention of threats emanating from them.
