We will no longer wait for the US to strike, we can strike ourselves. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Qasem Gharibabadi in an interview with Iranian state television.
"Why should we always wait for the US to strike? We can take proactive actions ourselves," he said.
According to the diplomat, Iran's new response to US sanctions is to strike at its economic interests.
"We should not, as before, react to the sanctions of the enemy," he further said.
Garibabadi called Trump's statements that the United States had cleared the Strait of Hormuz a lie.
"If the Americans have cleared the Strait of Hormuz, why don't they go through it themselves? No one, except Iran, knows the exact location of mines in The Strait of Hormuz," he said about this.
He added that if American minesweepers enter the region, they will become excellent targets for Iran.
"Trump's statements about mine clearance are propaganda and are needed only to calm the markets," Garibabadi concluded.
