Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio agreed to continue contacts at all levels during a telephone conversation on April 27. This was reported on April 28 in the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"On April 27, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov had a telephone conversation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. ...It was agreed to continue contacts at all levels,"the press service said in a statement.
During the conversation, Lavrov and Rubio focused on the issues of the Ukrainian conflict. The US Secretary of State stated the importance of "consolidating the emerging prerequisites for the start of negotiations" in order to reach a peaceful settlement.
It is specified that during the conversation, representatives of the states also exchanged views on the intensified dialogue between the Russian Federation and the United States and touched upon other international issues.
Lavrov noted on April 27 that negotiations with the United States on the settlement of the conflict on Ukraine is moving in the right direction. He recalled that the American Secretary of State, among other things, expressed the opinion that during the negotiations Washington better understood Moscow's position, as well as the underlying causes of the conflict.
