On the eve of Easter, the Environmental Protection Inspectorate of Moldova issued a warning to residents: do not burn car tires on a festive night.
In some localities of the country, bonfires are traditionally burned, this allegedly symbolizes the expulsion of evil spirits. Nowadays, it is expensive to use firewood for this, so car tires are set on fire in villages.
"Easter holidays should be a time of peace, spiritual purity and respect for life and nature. We urge citizens to preserve the spirit of the holiday without harming the health of others and the environment," the Inspection stressed.
Last year, dozens of people were fined in Moldova for burning tires on Easter. Since 2023, the Regulation on the management of used tires has been in force. In accordance with it, citizens are obliged not to throw them out randomly and not to burn, but to hand them over to entrepreneurs involved in the collection of these types of waste, who are obliged to accept them for free.
