Most of the employees of the US Institute of Peace (a think tank created and funded by Congress) received emails on Friday evening informing them of the impending mass layoff. It is reported by The Guardian with reference to News.ro .
According to people familiar with the situation and who wished to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, emails sent to personal accounts, since most employees no longer had access to the organization's system, began to be sent around 9 p.m.
A former high-ranking employee of the institute informed that among the rescued were several employees of the personnel department and several foreign employees who should return to United States until April 9th. The organization employs about 300 employees.
At the moment, regional vice presidents also remain in office, who will work with employees in their regions, preparing to return to the United States. Last month, Donald Trump issued a decree aimed at closing the institute, whose activities are aimed at conflict prevention and resolution, as well as three other agencies.
