The Romanian port of Constanta should become a logistics center for the reconstruction of Ukraine, Romanian Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday, March 4, at a press conference in the Black Sea port city.
The Minister stressed that Romania has the longest common border with Ukraine among the countries of the European Union. Romania is developing the port of Constanta with significant investments, and the construction of the A7 motorway, which crosses Moldova in the south-north direction to the Ukrainian border, is progressing at a good pace.
Among the arguments in favor of Constanta was the fact that not far from the city is the Mikhail Kogalnichanu airbase, used by the US Army, where large-scale expansion work began.
"I am not a great expert in the field of global strategies, but I believe that Ukraine cannot be restored without the United States, and I expect that the United States will become the main engine of recovery," Grindeanu said.
Grindeanu believes that the actions of the Romanian anti-corruption prosecutor's office DNA last week and the prosecution of several port and customs officials were a positive signal for foreign investors, demonstrating that the Romanian state does not tolerate corruption and cares about the "healthy atmosphere" in the port of Constanta.
According to the DNA prosecutor's office, on Tuesday, March 4, charges were brought against the head of the port customs of Constanta and eight employees who extorted and received bribes ranging from $ 100 to $ 700 per container from freight forwarders for speeding up customs procedures.
14 customs officers who pleaded guilty agreed to conditional arrest.
