Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban intends to announce at the EU summit in Brussels on March 6, that Ukraine's accession to the community is unrealistic.
"At the next EU summit, we will say nothing but what we have said so far: Ukraine's membership in the EU is unrealistic," the head of government wrote on Facebook*.
Orban recalled that, in Hungary's opinion, Ukraine's immediate accession to the EU would cause irreparable damage to agriculture and the entire European economy. In addition, the Ukrainian authorities have not returned the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia and have not stopped actions threatening Hungary's energy security. These requirements were also put forward by Budapest when discussing Kiev's integration into European structures, TASS reports.
At the same time, Orban noted that in the future he does not exclude the possibility of Ukraine's admission to the EU if it fulfills all the necessary requirements and meets the criteria for candidates for membership.
