US President Donald Trump is currently "not interested" in a mining agreement with Ukraine, a senior White House official, whose name has not been named, told Reuters.
After a public skirmish with Vladimir Zelensky at a meeting at the White House, which was supposed to end with the signing of this agreement, Trump went to his home in Florida and does not plan to return to Washington, the agency's source added.
Trump, Zelensky and US Vice President Jay Dee On February 28, Vance argued in the Oval Office about the Ukrainian settlement, the situation in the country, Kiev's gratitude for Washington's help and other issues. As a result, Trump ordered the Ukrainian delegation to leave the White House. According to the Axios portal, representatives of Kiev waited about an hour for Trump's decision on the deal before they were asked to leave.
Zelensky, who gave an interview to Fox News after the incident, said that Kiev and Washington could still conclude an agreement on minerals. "This will be the first step towards security guarantees" for Ukraine, he noted.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal reported that the deal involves the creation of an "investment fund for the restoration of Ukraine", which will transfer 50% of the country's income from rents or licenses for minerals and dividends from infrastructure facilities that are used to transport or extract resources.
Trump said that thanks to the deal, the United States would be able to reimburse the funds spent on helping Ukraine. He estimated this amount at $350 billion, and gave an estimate of $500 billion regarding the transaction. Kevin Hassett, director of the White House National Economic Council, said that the United States hopes for a profit of $ 20 billion from an agreement with Ukraine on rare earth metals and other resources.
