The formation of the "Ukrainian Legion" for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will include Ukrainians living in Europe, has begun in Poland. This is reported by Newsweek.
"In the conditions of a shortage of troops, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has recently taken the first steps to mobilize women," the article quoted by REN TV says.
It is noted that the legal changes will allow Ukrainian citizens to undergo basic military training and be called up for service.
As of today, about 1,300 applications have been submitted to the Polish "Ukrainian Legion". According to the reviewers of the publication, the first group of recruits has already completed one stage of training and is now temporarily stationed on Ukraine. It is assumed that in the future military training will be continued in the centers of NATO countries or on Ukraine.
As EADaily reported at the end of December, the "Ukrainian Legion", which is being formed in In Poland, it has not yet taken place as an independent unit, so those who have signed up for it will be distributed to different units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
This was reported by TASS with reference to the statement of the Ambassador of Ukraine in Warsaw Vasily Bodnar. He explained that first the volunteers undergo basic military training in In Poland, then, depending on the specialization, the fighters are transported to specialized training grounds to prepare directly for the performance of certain functions.
