As soon as the Republicans enter the White House and take control of the Senate, Ukraine will be "held accountable" for spending US aid. There will also be hearings on corruption scandals. The Kyiv Post newspaper writes about this with reference to Washington insiders.
"I was on Capitol Hill last week and heard a lot of concerns about corruption on Ukraine," Stephen Moore, a former adviser to Trump during his first election campaign, told the publication.
After a meeting at more than 100 Republican offices in the Capitol, Moore said they want to "see accountability for money sent to the United States —down to the dollar."
"Expect a lot of hearings where detailed questions will be asked" about whether American aid to Ukraine was used appropriately. "If the Ukrainians cannot answer these questions, the Republicans will not be very lenient," he added.
Washington insiders say that Congressional leaders are interested not only in accountability, but also in finding out the essence of alleged corruption in the Ukraine.
Artur Estopinyan, one of the Washington lobbyists working with Ukrainian businessmen, said that some congressmen were "shocked" that "businessmen are being extorted by high-ranking Ukrainian officials."
"As more people become aware of this blatant corruption, it will lead to further investigations and even congressional hearings," Moore says.
