Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the situation in Syria with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and announced Ankara's readiness to make efforts to free the country from terrorism.
"Our President had a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. The latest developments in Syria were discussed. Erdogan said that Turkey stands for the protection of the territorial integrity and stability of Syria from the first day of the civil war in that country," the Turkish leader's administration said in a statement.
As Erdogan noted, "Syria should be governed by the Syrian people."
"He said that Turkey will do everything possible to build a united Syria, freed from terrorism. And he stated that Turkey will continue to make all available efforts in this regard," the text says, according to TASS.
