The first city in Russia has completely banned electric scooters

In Blagoveshchensk, it was completely forbidden to rent and use electric scooters and other SIM (means of individual mobility). This was announced by the mayor of the city Oleg Imameev in a social network.

"The ban was introduced in accordance with the law adopted by the Legislative Assembly of the Amur Region at the end of June, which also introduces fines for non—compliance with the rules of SIM operation," the head of the city emphasized.

He added that the city was moving towards this step gradually.

"We tried to build a dialogue with the operators of electric scooters, but nothing came of it. At first, movement was restricted in the center, which met with mass support from citizens who were tired of the chaotic movement of electric scooters. However, the problem has not disappeared — it has moved to other areas of the city, where the flow of SIM has become even more uncontrolled," Imameev continued.

He added that most citizens perceive electric scooters as toys, not as a means of transportation. As a result, pedestrians were injured, emergency situations were repeatedly created, residents constantly complained.

"Today's ban is a forced but necessary measure," the mayor is sure.

Now, for any movement or placement of SIM on the territory of Blagoveshchensk, a fine of up to 100 thousand rubles will be imposed for each violation.

As EADaily reported, at the end of June in In Stavropol, a 16-year-old teenager on an electric scooter at high speed knocked down an elderly man in the city center. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died in intensive care. A criminal case has been opened on this fact under part 1 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of consumers) and part 2 of Article 268 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of rules ensuring safe operation of transport).
