Russia will adequately respond to the expulsion of Russian diplomats, which was announced by the Hungarian Foreign Ministry the day before. This was announced today, September 9, by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.

"As for this particular decision, ... of course, an adequate response will be given to it. These actions will not remain unanswered," Peskov said. "Of course, this cannot but have negative consequences for the entire complex of our bilateral relations."

As EADaily reported, Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orban announced the expulsion of 10 Russian diplomats. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said earlier that the response would be "cruel and painful."

Recall that Hungary continues to purchase Russian energy resources (oil and gas), and is also implementing a project to build new power units of the Paks-2 NPP with the participation of the Russian state corporation Rosatom. Cooperation is maintained in the field of education, science, as well as through interregional and cultural exchanges.
