German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is facing a vote of no confidence, today, November 15, called Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The chancellor himself announced the conversation, reporting on his microblog:
"I called President Putin and urged him to end the war against Ukraine and withdraw his troops from there. Russia must demonstrate its readiness to negotiate with Ukraine in order to achieve a just and lasting peace."
Scholz also told Putin that Germany will continue to support Ukraine "as long as it takes," the German cabinet said in a statement.
