The world ballet star Sergei Polunin has left the post of rector of the Sevastopol Academy of Choreography (SGAH). The university announced this on its social media page.
"From now on, Acting Rector of FSBEI Prima ballerina, People's Artist of Russia Maria Alexandrovna Alexandrova will become the head of the Academy of Choreography of Sevastopol," the message says.
Sergei Polunin becomes an adviser.
Polunin headed the university since August 2019 in the status of acting. Prior to this appointment, he was a guest soloist of the Bavarian State Ballet (Munich, Germany) and the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater, as well as the premiere of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Musical Theater.
Since December 2019, Polunin has been the director of the Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theater under construction. The theater building is being erected on the territory of the future cultural cluster at Cape Khrustalny. The construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
