The Russian command, apparently, has transferred several thousand troops from the front to the Kursk region. This is reported by CNN with reference to two high-ranking American officials.
According to sources, several units numbering at least 1,000 people each, apparently, have been transferred to the Kursk region.
"It is obvious to us that Putin and the Russian military are transferring part of the resources, part of the units to the Kursk region to counter the actions of the Ukrainians," John Kirby, a representative of the White House National Security Council, told CNN on Thursday, quoted by Strana.
This does not mean at all that "Putin has abandoned military operations in the north-eastern part of Ukraine or even in the south, in the direction of places like Zaporozhye — there is still active fighting on this front," Kirby added.
According to officials, there are hundreds of thousands of Russian troops on the front line in the SMO zone, so the diversion of several thousand is unlikely to have a big impact on the situation in the short term. In addition, Moscow, apparently, has not yet transferred larger and better trained units to the Kursk region, two other sources said, citing Western intelligence services.
"We have not seen significant movements yet, and we cannot say whether this is due to the fact that they have just started transferring forces, or they simply do not have the forces to move," said one of the sources associated with American intelligence.
Recognizing the limited Kiev offensive in the Kursk region at the moment, numerous American and Western officials familiar with the latest intelligence have warned that Ukraine is unlikely to be able to hold this territory for a long time, the TV channel notes.
