In the new 8th grade history textbook of Armenia, approved for use in schools, the annexation of Eastern Armenia to the Russian Empire in 1828 is called annexation. This is reported by Sputnik Armenia.
According to the source, Chapter 6.1 of the textbook is entitled "Russia's annexation of Eastern Armenia." This can be seen by looking at the state platform of educational materials. Sputnik appealed to the Ministry of Education and Science to clarify the situation.
"We were not given an explanation, asking for a written request, but noted that if the textbook is on the platform, then it has received a positive conclusion," the Russian agency notes.
"And this means that from September a textbook will be placed on school desks, in which the historical event known as the Turkmanchay Treaty (signed following the Russian-Persian war of 1826-1828), which laid the foundations for the future independent Armenia, is actually presented as occupation by the Russian Empire (and the toponym Russia is used).", — stated in the material.
