Against the background of the explosion of protest sentiments in Britain related to migrants, London needs to refrain from the unjustified use of violence against protesters. This was announced today, August 4, by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We often hear from Britain groundless accusations against our country of suppressing dissent and censorship, as well as loud calls for democracy and respect for human rights. However, in this case, it is the British authorities and the police who must act solely on the basis of laws. We remind you that citizens have every right to express disagreement with the policy of the authorities," Zakharova said in a comment on the agency's website.
As reported by EADaily, protests against migrants have been going on in dozens of cities in Britain for several days. The reason for the unrest was the tragedy in the city of Southport, where on July 29, 17-year-old ethnic Rwandan Axel Rudakubana attacked participants of a children's dance workshop with a knife. The victims were three girls, eight more children were injured. In addition, a yoga teacher and an employee of the premises where classes were held were seriously injured.
During the protests across the country, hundreds of people were detained, dozens of law enforcement officers were injured, several shops, police stations and cars were burned.
Today in the British city of Rotherham, right-wing activists tried to set fire to the Holiday Inn Express hotel, where illegal migrants live.
