Candidacy of a new Russian ambassador to Washington has received US approval. The date of the diplomat's departure to the duty station is planned taking into account the upcoming inauguration of the new American president Donald Trump on January 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on the air of the program "60 minutes" on the TV channel "Russia-1".
"Americans, by the way, < They said that they welcome the appointment of a professional who has devoted most of his career to Soviet-American, Russian-American relations," Lavrov said.
"The departure date is planned taking into account the optimal timing of the appearance of a new ambassador in Washington — considering that Donald Trump's inauguration is literally coming in three weeks," the minister added, quoted by TASS.
