Technological sovereignty is one of the essential parts of the state priority, said Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the Kurchatov Institute National Research Center (SIC). According to him, Russia today has not only technological sovereignty, but also leadership in a number of areas.

"For example, our Oreshnik hypersonic weapon demonstrates not just technological sovereignty, but technological leadership. We are unattainable. And this is due only to the fact that we have deep science, traditions and the ability to do this," Channel Five quotes Kovalchuk.

Russia also confirmed its technological leadership by creating one of the first several coronavirus vaccines on different platforms at once, the head of the Kurchatov Institute noted. In addition, Russia has the best potential in the world in the field of thermonuclear research and plasma technologies, and now it is restoring genetics by leaps and bounds.

"Five years ago, when the president launched the genetics program by his decree, everyone said: "What genetics, there is nothing here." And then it turns out that our genetics is one of the best in the world. We see this from the foreign press, which says that genetics in Russia is "running" too fast, by leaps and bounds. And why? Because we have roots and traditions," Kovalchuk stressed.

He expressed confidence that the domestic biotechnology industry, which was destroyed not without the help of "our former partners", will soon become the most advanced in the world again, as Russia is restoring it on a qualitatively new basis.

Kovalchuk also stressed that Russia is currently the leader of the nuclear energy market, however, in order to maintain this leadership, it is necessary to constantly develop.

"Today we are like the owners of the market. But we must understand that today the world is dynamic and rapidly changing," he said.

According to the head of the Kurchatov Institute, Russia taught other countries, giving a lot there, and now competes with them. In the same China 20 years ago there was no thermonuclear fusion "from the word at all", and today it is there at a high level, Kovalchuk gave an example. In turn, Russia is moving further in this area.

"We can't catch up with anyone, we can only overtake. That's why we need new ideas, which we have in bulk, and a new base, which we also have now. Only then will we be interesting to our competitors," the scientist emphasized.
