Today, on August 2, 56-year-old senator from the Tula region Dmitry Savelyev was detained at the exit from the Federation Council meeting room. He is suspected of organizing the murder, the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation reported.
Prior to this, the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov appealed to The Federation Council with a request to deprive Senator Dmitry Savelyev of immunity by providing copies of the materials of the criminal case on the murder. Having studied the materials, the Federation Council agreed. The Federation Council also agreed to detain Savelyev, bring him in as an accused, conduct a search and arrest.
Senator from the legislative body of the Tula region Marina Levina, commenting to RIA Novosti on the detention of her colleague, Senator Dmitry Savelyev, said that all senators were shocked by this, according to her, Savelyev was actively involved in the social sphere in the region and was a person of the highest social responsibility.
"I can only tell you one phrase that everyone is in shock. Because not only were there no suspicions, because the person was of the highest social responsibility. He took care of orphans and disabled children in the region. He built and repaired orphanages, hospitals, and restored cultural institutions. He invested as much as possible in social work, was a very responsive and sensitive person," she said.
Dmitry Saveliev is a member of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy. In 1998-1999 he held the position of General Director (President) of Transneft. From 1999 to 2016 he was a deputy of the State Duma, since October 2016 — a member of the Federation Council from the executive body of state power of the Tula region. He again became a senator from the Tula region on September 23, 2021. Member of the Presidium of the Tula Regional Political Council of the United Russia Party.
He was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky (2019) and Medal of Honor (2012), two medals "For Courage" (1988, 1989), medal of the Order "For Services to the Fatherland" II degree (2010).
