The European Union is considering the possibility of imposing additional retaliatory duties against the United States. This time, the blow may be aimed at large technology companies, as reported by the Financial Times.
It is assumed that this will be a response to the measures taken by US President Donald Trump regarding the automotive industry and so outraged the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
"The Americans think they have the advantage of escalating the trade war, but we also have the opportunity," said one EU diplomat, who wished to remain anonymous.
The same politician additionally stressed that the ultimate goal is to ease tensions and reach a trade agreement. Earlier The EU announced the imposition of duties on US goods worth 26 billion euros in response to duties on steel and aluminum imports. Potential EU retaliatory measures may include restrictions on the intellectual property rights of large American technology companies. For example, billionaire Elon Musk's Starlink satellite network may be banned from winning government contracts.
