The Russian Foreign Minister expressed concern about the behavior of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who did not mention the exploits of the Red Army. TASS informs about this today, March 30.
According to Sergey Lavrov, this is a very "sad trend."
"I am particularly concerned about the behavior of the UN Secretary-General. Not because he approaches ideals as a person, but because he is the UN Secretary-General. Whoever he is, and he is a Portuguese citizen, he has worked in international organizations for half his life and should understand what the UN Secretary-General is in accordance with Article 100 of the charter. It says: not to accept any instructions from any government, to observe neutrality and to achieve the only thing - the fulfillment of the goals of the UN Charter," said the head of Russian diplomacy.
Guterres delivered a speech at a ceremony dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
"I have never mentioned the Red Army, although the Day of Remembrance of those victims was established as a result of the feat of the Red Army soldiers. This is a sad trend," the Russian Foreign Minister believes.
