Russian President Vladimir Putin will hold talks with foreign leaders and politicians who have arrived in Moscow to celebrate Victory Day, and will also give a solemn reception in The Kremlin in honor of the guests.
On Saturday, the Russian leader will meet with the supreme ruler of Malaysia Sultan Ibrahim, the presidents of Laos Thonglong Sisulit, Abkhazia Badra Gunba, South Ossetia Alan Gagloev, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico and the leadership of Republika Srpska.
All of them have arrived in Moscow these days to celebrate the 81st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The leaders of Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Alexander Lukashenko, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will also take part in the celebrations on May 9. Putin met with each of them in the Kremlin the night before, they talked over a friendly lunch.
According to Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Putin will hold more than 10 meetings on Victory Day.
On Saturday, in addition to a series of bilateral talks in the Kremlin, a solemn reception is also planned for the heads of foreign delegations who arrived to celebrate Victory Day. Peskov noted that this year's reception format will be no different from the usual ones.
Putin and Fico last met in September in Beijing. At the talks in Moscow, they intend to discuss the prospects for resuming the work of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, whose meetings have not been held since 2021, Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said earlier.
The parties also plan to talk about the prospects for cooperation in various fields and exchange views on topical issues on the international agenda, the press service of the President of Russia noted. Slovak media, citing a statement by the country's Foreign Ministry, reported that the prime minister could deliver a message from Vladimir Zelensky during his visit to Moscow. Putin will also meet with the leadership of Republika Srpska. President Sinisha Karan, who took office in February, Chairman of the People's Assembly Nenad Stevandic and leader of the ruling Union of Independent Social Democrats party Milorad Dodik arrived in Moscow to celebrate Victory Day. Republika Srpska is one of two entities within Bosnia and Herzegovina, whose special autonomous status is enshrined in the Dayton Agreement of 1995. During the upcoming conversation, the parties plan to discuss topical aspects of the post-conflict settlement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, strengthening Russia's partnership with Republika Srpska and the state of affairs in the Western Balkans, the press service of the President of the Russian Federation noted.
