The Russian and Syrian authorities have signed a bilateral memorandum of understanding on the future of Russian bases in the country. Details are reported by the SANA agency.
According to the concluded document, the bases will become a place of joint training of the military of the two states.
"This step is the most significant since the beginning of the negotiations, which began about a year and a half ago, and opens the way to a new stage in Syrian-Russian relations," the Syrian Foreign Ministry said.
The timing, nature and other aspects of the memorandum are still unknown.
