The Soviet and Russian director, People's Artist of Russia Alexander Sokurov was never awarded an honorary award for his contribution to world cinema at the 48th MIFF (Moscow International Film Festival). The cancellation of the presentation was confirmed to the portal "Rise" by the director himself.

"Well, what can I say? Well, first they decided, then they changed their minds. It's so familiar to us, in fact. I'm just not really excited about this situation, to be honest. You never know what happens. Well, we decided this way, then we decided differently," Sokurov said.

He clarified that the reasons for the cancellation of the award ceremony are unknown to him.

"Yes, it's all nonsense. We don't work for awards, we make movies, because we have to make movies, and the fact that this happens is, well, rude, rude, rude, but God be with it. Let it be their internal problems," said the cinematographer.

According to him, Sokurov is not personally acquainted with the actor and director, People's Artist of the RSFSR Nikita Mikhalkov, from whom the invitation to the festival and the award presentation came. He also added that Mikhalkov had not contacted him.

"I received an invitation from him and a decision on awarding the prize. I was in Moscow for a day and a half to show my film "Director's Notebook". The film was shown — that's it, I left," Sokurov concluded.

As EADaily reported, Sokurov's film "The director's Notebook" was shown at the MIFF in a special program. Sokurov himself said that he did not make any effort to have his painting shown as part of the festival, it was just a great desire of the organizers.

At the same time, the director also received an invitation signed by Mikhalkov, which stated that within the framework of the festival he would be awarded an award "For his contribution to world cinema." The 48th MIFF closed the day before, the organizers did not inform about the awarding of the honorary award to Sokurov.
