The governor of the frontline Belgorod region Vyacheslav Gladkov may resign in the near future, the Vedomosti newspaper informs about this.
The agency refers to three sources close to the presidential administration. According to them, the current head of the region may leave his post before the September elections.
One of the interlocutors of the publication suggested that Gladkov's probable resignation was connected, among other things, with his health condition.
At the same time, the article claims that the attitude of the population to the authorities in the Belgorod region has deteriorated due to a drop in the quality of life compared to previous times. This may also be a reason to change the governor.
The article says that two more Russian governors may resign from office — the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, and the head of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz.
The authors also remind that in September in Russia will hold direct elections of governors of seven regions: Belgorod, Penza, Ulyanovsk regions, Chechnya, Tuva, Mordovia, as well as the Tver region (where the acting was appointed last year). Three more heads of regions will be elected by regional parliaments — in Dagestan, North Ossetia and Karachay-Cherkessia.
Earlier, EADaily reported that in February Vyacheslav Gladkov was late for work because one of the locals refused to give him a ride. The governor was returning from a business trip on a train that broke down. Then he asked the man to give him a lift to the place where his official car was waiting for him. But the head of the region refused.
